Weekend Tango Workshops

Homer & Christina

17-18 April 2010

Homer last visited Edinburgh in 2004 and returns after many years of teaching around the World with his wife and tango partner Christina. Homer has become famous amongst other things for his didactic videos of his classes on You Tube, which have formed the basis of many up and coming tango dancers learning. Come and work with Homer and Christina for the weekend or select the classes that excite you. There is something for everyone.

Homer & Christina

Homer & Cristina Ladas Homer and Cristina both started their tango obsession in 1997. They finally met each other at the all-nighter in Berkeley, CA in 2001. After signing-up as dance partners at a Portland Tango Festival in October of that year they fell in love and were married 8 months later in May of 2002.
Each brings with them over a dozen years of social dance experience emphasizing a fusion of tango ideologies, via the 'one tango' philosophy. As teachers they are committed to creating a positive class environment and try to reduce barriers that may inhibit students from really finding their own dance! Small epiphanies can & do occur in their students all the time...
It has been said, on more than one occasion, that few dancing couples improvise with such skill, personality, and fluidity of movement. As each year passes Homer & Cristina continue to explore deeper facets of their relationship to each other and to tango.
Homer is also a founding member of the non-profit Project Tango organization whose biggest local projects include the weekly CELLspace alternative milonga and the Tango Exchange. He is currently an active board member in charge of live music development and grant sponsorship.
Lastly, Homer is an active student of tango music. His current obsession, starting in October of 2009, is the bandoneon! His previous obsession (since 2005) was the double bass. Homer helped develop and also played with a locally based ‘student’ tango band called Los Bandacticos. He also has performed in several community orchestras (SFTX and TDLM). He hosts or participates in free music jams (some locally but mostly on the road). Future endeavors are in the works to start a local, Project Tango sponsored, community orchestra.
