Orquesta Típica Imperial

Orquesta Típica Imperial is a group of young musicians from Buenos Aires (three bandoneonists, three violinists, a pianist, a cellist, a double bassist). These Argentine musicians have found in tango a music with true identity that has allowed them to stand out as interpreters, arrangers and composers. The stressed style of their music, full of harmonic and rhythmic richness, has enabled them to rouse strong emotions in their audience.

Over the past five years, the Orquesta Típica Imperial has been performing at some of the most famous European and North American venues. It has also played in the most celebrated Tango Festivals of Europe and Latin America.

The Orquesta Típica Imperial has recorded three albums, La Máquina Tanguera (2003), Ruidos Molestos (2005) and Concentración Troileana (December, 2007).

Alejandro Larenas & Marisol Morales

Marisol and Alejandro studied initially with Dina Martinez, Sergio Cortazo and Graciela Fernandez. They started dancing together in January 2005 and continued their exploration of tango with Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli, Julio Balmaceda and Corina de la Rosa, developing along the way an original style of their own. They believe that what we call "Tango Nuevo" nowadays is product of the research and evolution of the underlying technique.

Marisol and Alejandro's style centres on the fusion of improvisation and musicality. It uses traditional tango as a starting point but is certainly not constrained by it, and it reaches the core of Tango Nuevo. An exhilarating blend of the traditional and the new.

Experienced teachers, Marisol and Alejandro are based in Buenos Aires but have taught at the Escuela Tango Libre of Montreal since 2005. There they have taken part in many of the events that the Escuela organises, such as the Montreal Tango festival and the show "Tango Magico".
